The karts
What are the Coupe and the Hatch?
Two electric go-karts with classic-car bodies. The Coupe is styled after the Porsche 964, with round headlamps and a sloping tail. The Hatch is styled after the Toyota AE86, with a wedge nose and pop-up headlamps.
Are they electric or gas?
Electric. Both run on a 72-volt, 40 Ah lithium battery. Neither one comes with a gas engine.
How fast do they go?
About 50 mph with the standard 2,500-watt motor and 75 mph with the High output motor, which is 3,000 watts and up. Those are the factory's estimates.
How far do they go on a charge?
About 19 miles. A second quick-release battery adds about 12 more, for roughly 31.
How long does it take to charge?
We don't have a charging time we'd stand behind yet. We'll time one ourselves and post it here before orders open.
How big and heavy are they?
8 ft 6 in long, 3 ft 7 in wide and 2 ft 7 in tall, and 419 lb. A typical one-car garage bay runs about 12 by 20 feet, so a kart takes up a small corner of it.
How much weight can they carry?
660 lb in all, by the factory's rating.
How many seats do they have?
You can order the Coupe with one seat or two. We're still confirming the Hatch's seating with the factory.
What comes standard?
A leather seat, classic-style wheels, turn signals, accent lights, a Bluetooth speaker and electronic engine sound.
Can I customize one?
Yes. You can order custom or metallic paint, a livery made from your own artwork, an interior in leather (several colors), houndstooth or suede, and different wheels or seats. Add-ons include a second battery, a bumper guard and spare tires. Anything past the standard kart is built to order, which takes about 30 days at the factory before it ships.
Buying
How much does one cost?
We haven't set our price yet. Elsewhere, karts like these sell for about $7,000 to $13,000, and the motor makes most of the difference. Our price will cover ocean freight, customs and duties. Delivery is a separate fee, posted before orders open. People on the waitlist hear the price first.
When can I order?
Not yet. We'll email everyone on the waitlist when the price and delivery dates are set.
Is there a deposit?
Not to join the waitlist. It's free and doesn't commit you to buy.
Can a business buy one?
Yes. Choose "My business" when you join the waitlist, or send us a message.
Is there a warranty?
Yes. Every kart comes with six months of coverage on the battery, motor and controller, and you'll be able to buy longer coverage when you order. Claims go through us, not the factory. How the warranty works
Can I return one?
Return terms will be spelled out in each order. Custom builds are made to order, so ask us before you order one if returns matter to you.
How do I know you're a real company?
Fair question, since fake stores sell karts like these. We're in Austin, Texas, you can email us at hello@texaszoomhouse.com, and the waitlist costs nothing. Before you pay anyone for a kart, ask for a live video of it. Ask us too, once the first karts are here. About us
Delivery
Where do you deliver?
Next day in Houston, Dallas–Fort Worth, Austin and San Antonio. Anywhere else in the lower 48, we book a freight truck and set the delivery day with you. We can't ship to Alaska, Hawaii or outside the United States.
How long does delivery take?
In those four metros, a standard kart arrives the day after you order. Freight takes longer, depending on how far you are from Texas. Custom builds take about 30 days at the factory before they ship. How delivery works
What does delivery cost?
We'll post the delivery fee before orders open. For freight, you'll see the cost before you pay.
Driving it
Is it street legal?
No. In Texas a go-kart can't be registered, so it can't go on public streets or roads. Are go-karts street legal in Texas?
Where can I drive it?
On private property, with the owner's permission: your own land, a friend's ranch, or a private track that allows outside karts. Most subdivision streets are public roads, even with an HOA. Our guide to where you can drive a go-kart in Texas names tracks near our four next-day cities that let you bring your own kart.
Do I need a driver's license?
Texas requires a driver's license to drive a motor vehicle on a public road (Transp. Code §521.021), and a go-kart can't go there anyway. On private land, the owner sets the rules. This is our reading of the law, not legal advice.
Who can drive it?
It's an adult-size kart: 8 ft 6 in long, 419 lb, and 50 mph in standard form. Whoever drives it should wear a helmet. We'll post age guidance before orders open.
